THE FEDERATION OF THAI INDUSTRIES
STEPPING AHEAD WITH STABILTY
The
Federation
of Thai Industries is an upgraded body of the Association of
Thai
Industries
which was created on November 13, 1967. The
transformation took place on December 29, 1987 by the
enactment of the Federation of Thai Industries Act, 1987 which
requires the body to be under the supervision of the Ministry
of Industry. The FTI Act aims at strengthening the private
sector institution which will help make industrialization in
Thailand more sustainable and synchronizing with other ongoing
national economic development processes as well as ensuring a
proper protection of the national interest in the world
economic environment.
THE
MEMBERSHIP OF THE FEDERATION OF THAI INDUSTRIES:
Ordinary member
: mey be of industrial enterprises in the country
who must comply with the Factory Act or the trade association
in the industrial sector.
Associate
member :
Those
individuals and juristic persons not in the industrial sector
or other trade associations.
THESE
MEMBERS ARE GROUPED INTO :

Industry clubs,
2. Countrywide provincial chapters
This grouping allows the FTI to strengthen the
unity and organize its work systematically by focusing on FTI
as a center enhancing the industry groups’ relations and the
relations among the industrialists themselves as well as
maintaining its relations with the consumers and other members
of the Thai business community.
FTI
board of directors governing body comprises of both those
elected and appointed for a term of 2 years. Two thirds of the
board are from those elected from the members and the
remaining one third from those appointed from each industry
club and the FTI provincial chapters throughout the kingdom.
STRIVING
TOWARDS SUCCESSFUL
INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT:
The
FTI is a juristic organization fully authorized by law to
pursue the objectives as set forth in the FTI Act, 1987. They
are :
1 To act as the sole representative of
allindustrial enterprises in Thailand
in
co-ordinating with the state in
both the policy and operation matters.
2 To promort and develop the industry.
3
To identify, analyse and solve problems and issues
arising in the conduct
of industrial
enterprises.
4 To
encourage, support the study, research, training and
disseminating
technical knowledge
and technology related to industries.
5 To
conduct product test and issue Certificate of Origin and
Certificate of
Quality Assurance.
6 To
offer appropriate advice and recommendations to the government
for the
overall benefits of
the industrial circle.
7 To
give encouragement to industrialists and act as a focal point
for
exchanging of views
among industrialists for the mutual benefits of the
entire industrial community.
8 To exert control and oversee the operation
of all members to ensure the
compliance to the respective
laws relating to industrial enterprises.
9 To conduct any other business as the law
may prescribe.
CONTRY-WIDE
WELL RESPECTED ROLES:
The FTI has gained the country wide recognition as the
only voice of the industrial community in Thailand in
addressing the issues and in co-ordinating with the government
both internally and on the international sphere.
THESE BASIC
FUNCTIONS ARE:
Joining the joint public-private sectors consultative
committee or JPPCC headed by the Prime Minister as one of the
active member from the private sector to address the economic
issues. Having won the trust and confidence of the government,
it also is entrusted with the duty to deputy the
representative to hundreds of subcommittees and working groups
within the decision making mechanism among the government
offices which can influence the policy and law making process,
making them more practicable to the private sector needs and
commensurable with the efficient and beneficial development of
industry and economy.

- The
FTI is also being recognized by its counterpart bodies
operating in various parts of the world. It is hence
vested with the capability of doing all negotiating works
with Thailand’s trading partners to safeguard
Thailand’s interest in the manufacturing sector in the
international arena. It also acts as the focal point for
the exchange of information and the nerve center for
developments of the individual’s right, fairness and
justice that the members are entitled to both domestically
and abroad.
- The
FTI has been authorized by the service members on
certifying the operation and production of its members as
well as to ensure that they ethically follow the law,
rules and regulations
ACHIEVING
THE GOALS WITH DEVOTION TO DUTIES AND SERVICES:
- Acting
as a link and promoter of business for members by
providing them anopportunity to exchange views and meet
the mission both domestic and from abroad:
- Assisting
in the development of members' business and the general
public by providing consultancy, conducting of workshops
and training, seminars, educational and observation tours
within the country and abroad.
- Encouraging
the study and upgrading of skills in various
specific industrial circles by making available the
scholarships, opportunities for training and observation
visits at all levels.
- co-ordinating
with worldwide bodies to ensure maximum benefits.
- Acting
as the representative for the government agency in the
matters involving the inspection, supervision and
certification for the operation and production of members
which include the issuance of Certificate of Origin,
certification of existence or non-existence of
producers/suppliers of raw materials in Thailand for
claiming of investment promotion privileges under the
Investment Promotion Act.
- Operating
as a registration body for the promotion of marketing
through arranging Thai Industrial Trade Fairs,
participating in all forms of exhibition conducted and
organized by both the government and private sectors in
the internal market and overseas.
- Producing
video tapes on technical subjects for the members and the
general audience with a view to facilitating the transfer
of specific branches of new technical knowledge on various
subjects to help improve and update their production and
service techniques at the company level.
- Acting
as a co-ordinating
center for the dissemination of information, data and
communications under the EDI system as well as producing
for circulation the FTI bi-monthly journal and the FTI
directory.
- Acting
as a center for the organization of training seminars and
workshops.
- Identifying
problems and issues faced by individual members and in the
industrial development process through the co-operation
of industry clubs and the countrywide provincial chapters
of FTI.
- Operating
the Industrial environmental management department within
the organizational structure of FTI to encourage all
technical services and the co-ordination
of technology transfer in the areas of environmental
management for the industry which include the testing of
waste water, quality of the air in the industrial plant.
